Mindfulness Instructor and Founding Director

Robert is a professional mindfulness, well-being and emotional intelligence coach, specialising in stress and neurobiology having trained with some of the field leading researchers from the US and UK.

Robert's background includes 30 years of personal meditation study and practice. He has been teaching mindfulness meditation across Yorkshire for the past six years in a variety of settings including the NHS, universities, schools, charities (cancer and substance abuse), veterans and self-referrals. He has spoken about mindfulness in healthcare on many occasions and is an active member of Hull's NHS Local Interest Group exploring how mindfulness can be developed within the community.

Prior to starting The Northern Centre for Mindfulness and Compassion, Robert's career includes 15 years of Business Management experience for large organizations where he has an acknowledged strength in developing individuals and teams in operational and sales roles.

Associate Mindfulness Instructor and Mindfulness in the Workplace Lead

A self-confessed workaholic meditation would never have been on Sally's agenda.  It was only as a result of ill health that she found herself at a local Buddhist centre and then drawn to the secular “Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction” Course.  It was this powerful combination of Mindfulness, Buddhist Philosophy and Western Psychology which transformed both her health and her approach to life, as being “something to be lived rather than a project to be managed”.

Despite originally intending to return to her career as an Human Resources Manager (MCIPD) Sally was inspired by the growing base of empirical research supporting the use of mindfulness in healthcare, organisations and education.  This, coupled with her own personal journey and the transformation she has seen in others, led Sally to train as a “Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction” Instructor in 2012.  Sally is also a Mindfulness in the Workplace Accredited Trainer (The Mindfulness Exchange) and is passionate about the potential of mindfulness in the workplace.

Associate MBSR Instructor and Retreat Programme Lead

Lauri completed her Ph.D. in Mindfulness and Engaged Buddhism, the key teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh in 2014. It is the practical application of mindfulness that Lauri is now taking forward through our secular MBSR courses and retreats. Lauri is also particularly interested in developing mindfulness and creativity workshops and retreats, as she recognises her own creativity is enhanced through practising mindfulness, particularly poetry. She regularly posts poems to her Mindful Living blog and creative projects to her Creative Living blog. Lauri has 30 years of personal meditation and mindfulness practice and 15 years experience of running and organising retreats.
